Incidents, requests, problems, changes, SLAs, and service catalog forms must live beside asset inventory. A focused ITAM product will not replace that mandate.

Honesty first — GLPI is likely the right choice if these are true for your team:

1. ITSM helpdesk is required in the same product

Incidents, requests, problems, changes, SLAs, and service catalog forms must live beside asset inventory. A focused ITAM product will not replace that mandate.

2. Self-host / open-source control is the mandate

Policy requires on-premise software or you want GPLv3 ownership of the stack. A hosted product does not replace a hard self-host requirement.

3. CMDB + DCIM breadth matters

You need deep configuration relationships, racks/PDUs/cables, and datacenter views as first-class inventory — not only MDM-synced endpoints and curated IT assets.

4. Agent/network discovery is the inventory engine

GLPI Agent, SNMP, and network discovery are how you keep the park up to date; custody workflows are secondary.

5. Plugin ecosystem & entities model fit how you work

You rely on the marketplace, rules and dictionaries, multi-entity isolation, and rich Admin/Setup surfaces.

6. Per-agent Cloud or Network packaging fits your budget
